The Three Houses  An Information Gathering tool. One day Workshop

This workshop will offer you:

  • A new practical information gathering tool that enhances engagement
  • A opportunity to apply strengths based practice and resiliency theory
  • A framework to develop intervention plans that reflect the specific strengths, needs, and resources of the person and their situation
  • Practical application of the tool to  young person’s situation
  • Examples of other ways to use this tool including supervision and Family Group Conferences

The Three Houses is a visual tool designed by Nicki to be used with children, young people, parents/ carers, and workers. It draws on strengths based practice, resiliency theory, and a Maori model of Health Te Whare Tapa Wha. The application of the Three Houses tool contributes to the gathering of information by providing insight into key areas of a person’s situation. This assists with the development of detailed intervention plans that reflect individual and family strengths, needs, and resources.

The Three Houses tool has been used in child protection, family and youth work. It has been applied successfully in initial investigation work, court reports, youth residential settings, family group conferences, team building, and as a supervision tool. Seminars and workshops have been run throughout New Zealand, and it has been presented in England.
