In Aotearoa New Zealand we are tragically only too aware of
children who have died as a result of child abuse. There are many
more situations which do not reach the media. It is time to talk
about what we can all do to prevent child abuse from happening. We
know the way in which children are treated, especially by those
closest to them, will also shape their future relationships and
social interactions.
This one day workshop takes a new look at
how we can work together to prevent child abuse. Through the acronym
of HELD it provides explanations of Hope, Empathy, Love and Dignity
along with ways to develop these as key emotional and social
competencies for children. Ensuring children get HELD can help
prevent child abuse now and in the future. Now more than ever, it is
time for our communities to take this type of heart led
direction.
