  • Application of resiliency theory to children who have experienced child maltreatment
  • Explore the notion of locus of control
  • A simple framework for assessing resilience in children and families
  • Building intervention plans that support the development of resiliency in children

In social service work we all come across children and families who despite hardship and difficulty, manage to function successfully in adverse situations. What is it that enables this to occur? Resiliency theory offers one explanation for this. If we understand what supports  resilience then we are more likely to offer interventions that can harness or develop these types of traits. Using a case example of a ten year old experiencing difficulties having experienced trauma, participants will have an opportunity to develop an intervention that builds on existing resilient traits and helps the development of new ones. This workshop provides an positive opportunity to discuss what can support recovery, and help children and families better manage adversity.
