The Action Reflection Method A one day workshop

This workshop will offer you:

  • A practical method to enhance your reflective practice in a variety of settings
  • An opportunity for you to apply solution focused questioning through the application of appreciative enquiry theory
  • Strategies around group facilitation
  • A structure for you to lead successful case conference forums
  • An opportunity to apply and practice the workshop content in a safe environment

The Action Reflection method provides a structure for the facilitation and participation of social service workers in a range of professional forums. This method is particularly useful when working with complex and challenging client situations to gain insight and awareness contributing to building solutions. Drawing from theories such as Appreciative Enquiry and the Kolb learning cycle, the action reflection method helps workers to develop solution focused questions and strengthens reflective practice. It also contributes to collegial relationships and professional collaboration. This method has been successfully used in New Zealand to support the development of Strengths based practice in statutory child protection work and the introduction of a Differential response model.

This interactive workshop will provide a broad overview of the strategic thinking that supports the action reflection method, and define this further through exploration and application of Appreciative Enquiry theory and the Kolb learning cycle. Strategies around successful group facilitation and the application of the Signs of Safety framework will also be provided. The workshop will conclude with an opportunity for a practical application of the method through an actual case forum. The workshop has been delivered to statutory child protection staff and across a variety of social service agencies in New Zealand. Feedback includes:
